Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Comic-Con Panel Highlights

Two Comic-Cons after first announcing Batman v Superman, Zack Snyder returns to San Diego to partially show the fruits of his labor alongside Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jeremy Irons, Jesse Eisenberg, Holly Hunter, and Amy Adams.

- Snyder started by describing the project as a "dream come true", and praised the cast.

- Of the film's main story and how close to the comics it is, Snyder responded, "If you wanna talk about the story itself or the particulars of this movie, it’s definitely based on just ideas we had in a room based on what we thought would be cool to see. If you wanna talk about Batman vs Superman, it’s a thing that happens a lot in the comics."

- Snyder also admitted that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice pays homage to The Dark Knight Returns comic, "but the story itself is not in the movie."

- The director also spoke about working with screenwriter Chris Terrio (Argo), and said that they just talked about how to make Superman fighting Batman make sense, adding that they done things in Man of Steel that help with the introduction of Superman, but also of other superheroes.

- Snyder also revealed that unlike in the comics, Metropolis and Gotham are next to each other. "The big rule that we broke was we put Gotham and Metropolis right next to each other… But it made sense to us and worked for our story that they were kind of sister cities across a big bay. It’s like Oakland and San Francisco."

- On the differences between Michael Caine's version of Alfred and his, Jeremy Irons didn't give anything away but teased that "He’s a little different, my Alfred, so I think there are surprises in store."

- As for Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman, the actress revealed that she feels like she has "been given a huge opportunity to show the strong and beautiful side of a woman. She has the strength of a superhero but at the same time is very loving."

- Jesse Eisenberg reiterated what he said in a previous interview, "There’s always a bit of a campy element to the character but I think there’s a real emotional roundedness to this version of it."

- "If I thought too hard about the actors who played this part before I couldn’t take the job," said Affleck, who also admitted that though he was reluctant to take on the role, it was Snyder's pitch that made him decide to tackle the character.

- Affleck went on to share a funny moment that happened after saying yes to play Batman. The actor revealed that he was out shopping for a Batman costume for his son when he ran into Christian Bale, who told him to "make sure you can piss in that suit" when Affleck asked him if he had any tips.

- Finally, Snyder revealed that though similar to the one in The Dark Knight Returns comic, his Batman's mech suit is more for protection and less for attack.
