I think congratulations are in order. Five years after
the last film, and two since we last heard anything about it, the first draft
for The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair is finally done.
Finding Neverland, and Life of Pi scribe David Magee
has announced that after more than a year of work, he finally finished the
first draft for the sequel to The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn
Trader.
"Completed the
final draft of The Silver Chair today. I’ve had the immense pleasure to work on
the project for over a year now. So
fulfilling."
I must confess that although
I enjoyed the first film, it didn't grab me and I skipped the franchise altogether,
but for fans of C.S. Lewis' series of books and the film franchise this is
certainly good news. Of course caution is advised since this is only the
screenwriter saying he has finished the job he was paid to do and not the
studio announcing that the film is officially coming.
With Harry Potter in
theaters and "stealing" all of the target audience, the Narnia franchise
never really took off, but back in 2011 there were talks of perhaps giving it a
soft reboot with the adaptation of The Magician's Nephew, the first book in Lewis'
series and a prequel of sorts. That it seems is out of the picture.
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair picks up
decades later in Narnia but only one year after in England, and follows a much
older King Caspian, who recruits Aslan to find his son and only heir, Prince
Rilan. In turn Aslan recruits two English boarding school students by the names
of Jill Poole, and Eustace Scrubb (played by Will Poulter in Voyage of the Dawn
Trader) to help with the search.
