Perhaps best known for inspiring the Jurassic Park
franchise, Michael Crichton contributions to the big and small screens were big,
diverse, successful, and most important of all, inspiring. From the man that also gave us The
Andromeda Strain, Sphere, The 13th Warrior, Rising Sun, Disclosure, Congo,
Twister, and E.R., now comes Micro, a DreamWorks production about a group of
graduate students working for a biotech company, who find themselves shrunk
down in the middle of Hawaii's rain forest. The sci-fi novel was completed
posthumously by Richard Preston in 2011 and went on to become a best seller.
"Michael was exhilarated, passionate and invested
in Micro, a story he
spent years researching and developing," said Crichton's wife Sherri. "It
was yet another opportunity for him to explore the clash between science and
nature, as seen through the eyes of relatable characters. Michael also wrote in
cinematic terms and would be so pleased to see Micro come to life on the big screen
at DreamWorks", which also optioned Pirate Latitudes, another one of the
author's posthumous work.
"We are so pleased to have this opportunity to
develop Micro," said Steven
Spielberg, who worked with the author on the Jurassic Park franchise. "For Michael, size did matter whether it was for Jurassic’s huge
dinosaurs or Micro’s
infinitely tiny humans."
