Jurassic World was always planned as the first in a new series of films,
but with an astonishing U.S. opening, and a staggering $500+ million worldwide,
it's not at all surprising to hear that a sequel is "already" being
developed.
With Chris Pratt signed on for at least one more Jurassic adventure,
director Colin Trevorrow, who will not return for the sequel, seems to have
guided his film in such way that its sequel will skip on having a park, and
island altogether
"I
felt like it was my responsibility to at least tee up where we could go, and in
doing that I felt like I don’t want to make it yet another island movie or
another theme-park movie,"
Trevorrow said. "I felt by introducing a couple
key ideas and some of them are introduced by Dr. Wu, and even the simple idea
that these people at Jurassic World won’t always be the only people that can
clone a dinosaur."
Though true that expanding the world of the Jurassic
franchise might be a good idea, the fact is that it might be easier said than
done. The 1997 sequel to Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park saw InGen
trying to build a new park outside of the Islands, which proved fatal for many
including the franchise. But maybe all you need is a different premise.
"What
happens when this technology goes open source?" the filmmaker added. "I think the minute that you add
an idea like that into something like this, it can open up the minds of every
young person who loved these movies. I think there’s a lot room to grow."
