First Images And Details About Independence Day 2


With the Independence Day 2, or Independence Day: Resurgence as it is officially called, livestream event over, there are a couple of things that we now know about the upcoming sequel.

First, is that the events of the first film are called the "War of 1996", and that part of the new film will be about a post-war generation.

Second, is that though "we can't build alien technology", "we can harvest it" said Rolland Emmerich during the event, which took place on a set that is a moon base and had a Human Hybrid Fighter Jet.

Third, Emmerich revealed that only reason he's directing the sequel is because of 2012, and what he discovered could be achieved with the "current" technology.

Fourth, the film takes place in 2016 and Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson character is the director of the Earth Space Defense, the worldwide agency in charge of protecting Earth.

Fifth, the presumed dead Dr. Okun (Brent Spiner) is very much alive and as eccentric as ever.

Sixth, Sela Ward plays President Lanford, and she's more assertive than former President Whitmore (Bill Pullman), whose daughter Patricia (now played by Maika Monroe) is a special agent of sorts, who besides working for the current president also has to deal with being the daughter of a famous man.

Seventh, Jesse Usher plays Dylan Hiller, the stepson of Will Smith's character from the first film. Usher revealed that like Patricia, Dylan also grew with a giant next to him.

Eighth, Angelbaby plays an orphan who grew up to be a fighter pilot.

Ninth, Liam Hemsworth (Jake Morrison) is also playing an orphan who become a fighter pilot, but that due to some circumstances ends up working on the Moon base operating a Moon Tug.

Tenth, Vivica A. Fox's Jasmine "is no longer working the pole" said the actress. "She’s no longer a stripper with a heart of gold." In fact, Jasmine is now a hospital administrator.

Eleventh, David's father Julius (Judd Hirsch) arc in the film is to get to David.

  1. Why not bringing back Mae Whitman as Patricia Whitmore. She still acts on TV & movies.
