Between Marvel renewing Agent Carter for a new season,
the official cancelation of Constantine, and the trailers for Lucifer, and Supergirl dropping, I completely forgot that TNT was developing a TV series based
on DC's Teen Titans.
Speaking to TV Line about the status of the project,
TNT president Kevin Reilly revealed that the project is still in its infancy
and that "maybe the summer" is when things might start to pick up for
the series.
Reilly also said that Oscar winner
Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind),
who wrote Joel Schumacher's Batman films and the scribe chosen to pen the pilot,
will be doing something different from the current comic book adaptations,
adding that Goldsman's intentions are for the show to stay "very true"
to the source material.
Reilly also pointed out that since the Teen Titans "was
a groundbreaking property when it first started," there is an opportunity
to set the series apart from the rest of the comic book adaptations that currently
called TV their home.
"There
were consequences to things that happened; it wasn’t somebody died and they
moved on. There was the first superhero to be an addict [in Roy Harper’s
Speedy]. It’s a coming-of-age story for Robin, who feels like Batman has
betrayed him."
At
this point, and since the script for the pilot hasn't been written yet, it's
impossible to say when the series will air, or who will be in it, but it was
reported a few months ago that super-team would be composed of Nightwing,
Barbara Gordon, Hawk, Dove, Starfire, and Raven.
