Documentaries about
the film process (actors, directors, etc…) are always fun to watch, but
documentaries about films that never made it into production, or that never made
it into theaters are especially fun as they often shine a light at the
machinations behind the scenes.
One recent case of a promising
film that many were anticipating but that was axed by the studio is George
Miller's take on DC's Justice League.
Australian director
Ryan Unicomb, and producers Aaron Cater, and Steven Caldwell are set to dive
into and explore why Miller's vision never came to fruition with a documentary
that will chronicle the pre-production, development, and ultimately its
cancellation with interviews to cast and crew, and exclusive look at costume
design, and concept art.
Speaking to Inside
Film, Unicomb says that he's envisioning Miller's Justice League Mortal (working
title) to be "in the same vein as 2013’s
Jodorowsky’s Dune and this year’s The Death of Superman Lives: What
Happened?"
No
release date has been scheduled, but with Miller's triumphant return to the Mad
Max franchise, and superhero movies has popular has they have ever been, we
should expect it to land in theaters, and perhaps other platforms, sooner
rather than later.
Miller's Justice
League Mortal has found financiers to help bring the project to completion, but
crowdfunding is also being considered.
Miller's Justice League
Mortal had a fully formed cast, which included Armie Hammer as Batman, Adam
Brody as The Flash, DJ Cutrona as Superman, Megan Gale as
Wonder Woman, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as
Aquaman, Teresa Palmer as Talia Al Ghul, Zoe Kasan as Iris
Allen, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, and Jay Baruchel as
Maxwell Lord.
