At a recent Q&A
session on Twitter's Periscope streaming service, Guardians of the Galaxy
director James Gunn revealed that he has already begun searching for some new
talent to add to the upcoming Marvel sequel.
According to the
filmmaker one new main character will be added to Guardians of the Galaxy 2,
and hinted that someone familiar may join the team. As of now it's unclear what
familiar face will join the ranks, but it could either be an Avenger, which
Gunn has hinted at in the past, or Yondu played by Michael Rooker who in the comics is part of the team and that we know will
return with a bigger role.
As for any other new characters,
Gunn revealed that the casting process has already sort of begun, and that he
has informally approached someone he has in mind to play a character, a new
Guardian. We know that Gunn is keen on having another female member on the team
besides Gamora (Zoe Saldana), so perhaps she will be the new main character.
Gunn capped the
session by reiterating that Star-Lord's father will not be J'Son of Spartex and
that the film won't follow that storyline since it would be too similar to Star
Wars.
Guardians of the
Galaxy 2 opens on May 5, 2017.
