There Is A Star Wars Reference In All Marvel Phase 2 Movies

One of the things Marvel Studios has pride itself in doing is adding Easter Eggs to every one of their films starting with Iron Man in 2008.

At this point, they serve not only has an announcement of sorts of things to come, but also as a clever idea to engage fans. However, it seems that in Phase Two the studio has taken one-step further and decided to start branching out from the comics and into a galaxy far, far away.

According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, all Phase Two films have someone loosing an arm, or hand (see where I'm going) in reference to Star Wars.

So is this a spoiler for Ant-Man… not really. I’m obsessed with Star Wars. Who’s not? I’m 40 years old. I’m in the movie business. I went to USC. So I’m obsessed with Star Wars – and it didn’t start out as intentional, but it became intentional, including that beat that you referenced. It sort of happens in every Star Wars movie, but I was sort of looking at it, ‘Okay, is Phase Two our Empire Strikes Back?’ Not really, but tonally things are a little different. Somebody gets their arm cut off in every Phase Two movie. Every single one.

So far, four characters have lost an arm in Phase Two films. Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) lost one to Tony Stark at the end of Iron Man 3. In Thor: The Dark World Loki pretends to cut off Thor's arm in order to distract Malekith. Bucky of course had his arm chopped off in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and lastly Gamora prunes Groot's arm during the fight/chase scene in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant-Man are the only ones left in Phase Two, so let's keep our eyes open to see who gets maimed.
