It seems that director Justin Lin's upcoming Star Trek 3 will be titled
Star Trek Beyond. According to TrekMovie that's the title Paramount Pictures registered
with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), however they throw in a
disclaimer that it is possible that this could be a decoy title to mislead
fans, since we know how J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot tend to function.
Regardless, this title echoes what co-writer Simon Pegg has been saying
about the project.
So for me it’s now about the spirit of adventure
and exploration and also, in modern terms, just how would that be for people,
to be away for that amount of time and that kind of stuff.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin this June for a July 8, 2016
release. Star Trek 3, or Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto
Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, and Sofia Boutella.
