We learned late last year that Mark Wahlberg and his Lone Survivor director
Peter Berg were re-teaming for the adaptation of the 1970's TV series, The Six
Million Dollar Man. Now Academy Award nominee writer/director Damián Szifron (Wild
Tales) has been brought onboard to pen the screenplay for re-titled Six Billion
Dollar Man.
"I couldn't be
more honored and grateful," said Szifron. "Such a major
challenge represents a great opportunity. The themes surrounding this beloved
property allow for the creation of a memorable sci-fi actioner as
well as a bold spy thriller. Expectations are high and I’ll do
my best to deliver the strongest basis for an amazing cinematic experience."
The Six Million Dollar Man follows former astronaut Steve
Austin who, after a horrific crash of an experimental plane, is saved by
doctors when he is fitted with bionic replacements — both legs, his right arm
and left eye. With super-human power, he becomes a force to be reckoned with
for the government as a secret agent for the Office of Scientific Intelligence.
In the meantime, Berg
and Wahlberg are getting ready to begin shooting the oil
spill drama Deepwater Horizon.
