It seems that last
year's adaptation of the Need for Speed videogame was successful enough for a
sequel to be ordered. According to Variety the same Chinese partners that
helped bring Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction production to China
have teamed up with Electronic Arts to do the same to the $ 4 billion dollar
game franchise.
Just like in
Transformers: Age of Extinction, much of the Need for Speed cynical cash grab, sorry
I meant sequel would be shot in China with Chinese actors taking on more substantial
roles, according to the announcement made by China Movie Channel Program
Center, Jiaflix Enterprises, 1905 Pictures, and Electronic Arts.
"We are excited
to work with EA, one of the world’s most recognized creative companies,"
said Yin Cao, chairman of China Movie Channel. "We are also delighted that
much of ‘Need for Speed 2′ would be filmed in China, and we believe it will
include much more Chinese talent and elements."
Jiaflix
president Marc Ganis also spoke of the sequel and hopes for it to be the
launch of "one of the next great franchises for movie fans around the
world."
Despite all the excitement
Need For Speed 2 cannot proceed ahead until some sort of agreement is achieved
between the mentioned companies and Dreamworks, who currently holds the rights
to the franchise and possible sequel.
