One of the many
threads director James Gunn left hanging for the upcoming Guardians of the
Galaxy sequel was about Star Lord's father.
Vulture recently caught
up with the director at the premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron and was asked
about where our band of A-Holes will be the second time around.
"There's a lot of stuff
I'm excited about in the new movie," he said. "Listen, I'm still
excited about Star-Lord's character and where he goes. At its heart, Guardians is a story about
families, and if the first film was about him and his mother, this is a story
about fathers. So it's exciting to go there."
It's worth pointing
out that Gunn has stated on multiple occasions that Peter Quill's father is not
J'Son, the Emperor of the Spartoi Empire like in the comics. The director of
course could be misdirecting fans, so we will have to wait and see when the
first casting confirmations start rolling in.
It's also intriguing
that Gunn went for "fathers" and not father, so does this mean that
Nebula's relationship with Thanos will be developed a little bit more?
Guardians of the
Galaxy 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
