Yesterday we got our first glimpse of actor Charlie
Hunnam as a "streetwise young Arthur" on the set of director Guy
Ritchie's upcoming Arthurian legend film, Knights of the Round Table, and today
Warner Bros. has released the official synopsis.
It seems that Ritchie's approach to his King Arthur film
will be the same as in Sherlock Holmes, where you can clearly identify all the
familiar trademarks, however they all feel fresh because they are slightly skewed
versions of what we are accustomed to.
What is the first film of an envisioned six-film
franchise also stars Eric Bana as Uther Pendragon, Astrid Berges-Frisbey as
Guinevere, Jude Law as the villain Vortrigern, Djimon Hounsou as the resistance
leader Bedivere, and Aiden Gillen as Goosefat Bill.
Knights of the Round Table is scheduled to open on
July 22, 2016.
The bold new story introduces
a streetwise young Arthur who runs the back alleys of Londonium with his gang,
unaware of the life he was born for until he grasps hold of the sword
Excalibur—and with it, his future. Instantly challenged by the power of
Excalibur, Arthur is forced to make some hard choices. Throwing in with the
Resistance and a mysterious young woman named Guinevere, he must learn to
master the sword, face down his demons and unite the people to defeat the
tyrant Vortigern, who stole his crown and murdered his parents, and become
King.
