It's
has been awhile since we heard anything from Universal Pictures' remake of
Scarface, but that doesn't mean developments weren't being made. According with
The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Jonathan Herman (Straight Outta Compton)
has been hired to write Paul Attanasio (Donnie Brasco) and David Ayer's (Fury)
initial drafts.
Director
Pablo Larrain (No) is on board to direct the remake, which apparently will explore
a Mexican immigrant's rise to power in the criminal underworld of Los Angeles.
Before
everyone starts complaining about the state of Hollywood and the constant remakes,
it's worth pointing out that Brian De Palma's 1983 Scarface starring Al Pacino
was also a remake of director Howard Hawks' 1932 original film.
