Mission: Impossible 5 production is near its end, and
with the July 31st release date looming closer, writer/director Christopher
McQuarrie took to Twitter for an unprompted Q&A with fans. The director
didn't reveal much in terms of plot but addressed some of the concerns regarding the rumor that
the end of the film was being redone, why certain actors didn't return, the
tone, the villain and much more.
The director responded to quite a number of questions
and here are the highlights.
- The end of the film is fine, it just had to be
prepped.
- The subtitle and trailer are on the way.
- Maggie Q (Mission: Impossible 3), and Paula Patton (Ghost
Protocol) were unavailable hence their absence from the film.
- Composer Joe Kramer, who worked with the director on
Jack Reacher is "playing with something retro" for the score.
- Those expecting the film to be old school "won't
be disappointed".
- M:I 5 will have the feel of an episode of the old tv
series.
- British actor Sean Harris (Prometheus) is the film's
villain.
- Both Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames will have more
screentime.
- Simon Pegg's Benji "gets his hands plenty dirty".
- There are specific Brian De Palma references.
I'm excited to see what new angle McQuarrie will bring
to the franchise, though I have to say that the villain in Jack Reacher played
by Werner Herzog was a bit dull, weak, and ultimately not very villainous at
all.
