The
Flashpoint storyline from the comics is something that has been circling The
Flash show like vultures waiting for its prey to die. It was teased in the pilot,
and it has been something that fans have been patiently waiting to see play out.
Now speaking to Entertainment Weekly the star of the show talks a little bit
more in depth about the episode where we will finally the Scarlet Speedster
brake the time barrier.
"It’s a
complete accident the first time [he time travels]," star Grant Gustin
says. "It’s really confusing because now we’re playing with timelines and
we’re having to shoot things a couple different ways. It’s like a Groundhog Day-type
element. It’s really funny and really exciting."
Gustin
adds that Barry is confused with what's going on, but then "he realizes,
‘Holy shit, this an opportunity to change things with my family’s past,’" he
says. "He doesn’t know yet to maybe not do that, but that’s where Barry’s
at when he realizes what he’s just learned that he can do, that he can maybe
save his mom."
This is where
the Flashpoint storyline kicks in. In the comics Barry travels back in time,
saves his mother, but ends up drastically changing the future. Characters
change sides, and he doesn't get is powers, which leads Andrew Kreisberg to add
te show's time travel will bring "massive repercussions for the show,"
he says. "After that episode, things are never going to be the same on The Flash."
How much do you think things will change?
