Spoiler: Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver Origins Revealed In Avengers: Age of Ultron

The after credit scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier featured Baron Von Strucker played by Thomas Kretschmann, Loki's staff, and  the "imprisoned" Pietro and Wanda, or Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

At the time we all wondered how Marvel would frame the characters into the MCU given that they can't use the characters original backstory to explain why they have superpowers. Fans began speculating that perhaps they were Inhumans and that the powers had been acquired through exposure to the Terrigen Mist.

Well, in what seems like an attempt from Marvel to explain the situation before it becomes one when it reaches screens on May 1st, the publisher has released a digital comic called Avengers: Age of Ultron Prelude - This Scepter'd Isle. In the comic, "it's revealed that Strucker, acting on behalf of Hydra, used the scepter on test subjects in the fictional European city of Sokovia to "unlock" any powers they might have."

Earlier I said that the Twins were prisoners of Strucker, implying that perhaps they had been forced to become lab rats, however this preview of the comic states that they are willing participants, and that emphasizes a point Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda) made in a previous interview where she talked about what drives the Twins to do what they do.

"Our characters have a lot of anger, especially towards Tony Stark, and we want revenge," said Olsen. "We meet Ultron, and he's someone who preaches peace and… believes what we believe, which is that the Avengers create destruction and that Tony Stark's bomb is responsible for killing our parents."

What do you think?
