According to Deadline, The Expendables 2 director Simon West was hired to
remake the remake of the 1958 sci-fi horror film, The Blob. They also say that
principal photography is expected to begin this summer.
“With modern CGI we can now fully realize the
potential of The Blob. The world
I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s
a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era
of fans,” says West.
The original film, which starred a young Steve McQueen,
saw a gelatinous alien emerging from crashed meteor consume the townsfolk of
Dowingtown, PA.
I'm not entirely sure if the film or its concept will
stick younger audiences, or people who never knew of the its existence. I'm
however pretty sure that fans won't enjoy to hear the news that one of the sci-fi/horror
classics is being redone, I know I'm not. Plus these type of movies worked
because of the era they were made in, so I'm not sure if a killing alien blob
is enough to get people into the theaters.
