Last
month we stated that “The production for M:I 5 is expected to start once Tom
Cruise finishes off with Guy Ritchie’s adaptation to the big screen of the
popular 60’s tv series The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”, but now the project collapsed
on itself and is not going to happen anymore.
The
Man from U.N.C.L.E had casting problems, with George Clooney, Bradley Cooper
and Channing Tatum being considered for the main role, before it landed on
Cruise’s lap, and had directorial problems with it first being directed by
Stephen Soderbergh, before he left because of budget issues.
Guy
Ritchie was then approached to replace Soderbergh in December of 2011 and the
project seemed to be back on track, but now Cruise as abruptly left the project
leaving it in a stalemate of either cast another actor for the role or just
shut it down completely.
Cruise
left The Man from U.N.C.L.E to do Mission: Impossible 5, and because the M:I
franchise is his “baby”, he gets very involved in all aspects of it, from
development, to planning and production, so it will be very unlikely to Cruise
to do The Man from U.N.C.L.E, since he doesn’t have the time.
Mission:
Impossible 5 will probably be director by Christopher McQuarrie, the same
director from Jack Reacher. The project can also count with Iron Man 3
screenwriter Drew Pearce.
