Is Hasbro planning to develop
a movie based on the GoBots? Well it seems that way. According to the United
States Patent & Trademark Office, Hasbro has applied to a new GoBot
trademark for "distribution of motion pictures, ongoing television
programs" and "toys, games and playthings, namely, toy vehicles and
accessories for use therewith."
Similar to Transformers, the
GoBots were a toy line of vehicle transforming robots produced by Tonka in the
80's. The short-lived popularity of the GoBots led to the Challenge of the
GoBots animated tv show and GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords animated movie. In
the early 90's Hasbro, who owned Transformers bought Tonka, and the GoBots with
them.
I don't see the point of making a
live-action feature film of the GoBots since the Transformers franchise is already very well established, plus they both belong to the same company, so i believe that they might be going for an animated feature instead.
The company has been pushing
for more and more of their toy lines to be adapted into live-action feature
films. We already got G.I. Joe, Battleship, and Ouija adaptations with Jem and
the Holograms, and Candy Land still to come.
