While
promoting Michael Mann's latest action/thriller Blackhat, Chris Hemsworth was
asked by Digital Spy if Avengers: Age of Ultron would be planting the seeds for
Thor: Ragnarok like it will for Captain America: Civil War.
"Yeah,
definitely, It has to, doesn't it? Unless I was on the sidelines kind of
waving. He's not," said the actor.
That
being said Hemsworth did reveal that he couldn't really say anything about the
July 28, 2017 release because there isn't a script yet.
"No,
I can't," he replied. "But also, there is no script for Thor, the
next Thor, so I have no idea where we'll end up. But, it's pretty big, this one."
In
the latest source material (that I know) Ragnarok is two things. First it is a cyclical
world-ending battle between Asgard and those that seek to destroy it, including
Loki, who manages to become all powerful when he attains Mjolnir's mold and
creates weapons equivalent to it. To try and stop his brother from annihilating
everything, Thor seeks the wisdom of Odin, who by now is dead. After removing both
eyes and hanging himself from Yggdrasil, the World Tree, Thor receives the full
wisdom of his father and learns that a group of powerful beings called Those
Who Sit Above In Shadow have for eons manipulated the Ragnarok, feeding off its
energy. To try and break the cycle Thor ultimately sacrifices himself.
This
general idea seems more in line with what Marvel seems to be going for, with
space, and all powerful beings, and because they don't follow the comics to the
letter they might include one of the Infinity Gems.
On
the other hand, Ragnarok was a clone of Thor created by Iron Man during the
Civil War storyline that was used has the muscle to defeat the
anti-registration heroes, or Secret Avengers led by Captain America.
Because
Thor: Ragnarok comes after Captain America: Civil War I have a hard time believing
that they would have this character appear after the events of Civil War.
What
do you think?
