In this week's top ten countdown Dan Gilroy's Nightcrawler starring
Oscar contender Jake Gyllenhaal comes in last. The wide release has helped writer/director Alejandro Iñarritu's Birdman
to rise yet another spot. Like Nightcrawler, David Ayer's Fury also dropped
from last week's countdown. St. Vincent has surprised me every week since it
made into the top ten countdown, and this week it's no different as it
continues to float around in the middle of the chart. Beyond the Lights also
dropped, however it dropped less than expected. After eight weeks David
Fincher's Gone Girl finally drops from the top half of the board, even if just
slightly. Dumb and Dumber To had a big drop-off and jumps from first to fourth.
It's unclear whether the unlimited ticked gimmick for Interstellar made a difference
or not, what is clear is that the film is yet again behind Disney's Big Hero 6,
which dropped from first to second only because of Francis Lawrence's The Hunger
Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, which as expected took the number one spot with a
very impressive premiere.
On a side note, Kirk Cameron's Saving
Christmas is playing in 410 theaters and already made almost 2 million, while Oscar
contender Foxcatcher (which opened last week) is playing in 6 theaters and made
less than a million.
