When we reach the year 2020 at
least 31 films based or inspired on comic books have come to pass. There will be
new adaptations, and continuations, but there will also be some reboots like the upcoming Fantastic Four by Chronicle director Josh Trank.
Fantastic Four is set to hit
theaters on August 7 2015, and strangely no promotional content for the highly
anticipated, even if not by all, film has been released, especially considering
that Ant-Man, which comes out just a couple of months before already released a
image of the star of the film Paul Rudd, and a press release with a synopsis.
Even worse, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice only comes out in 2016 and we
already had more than a few official images from the main heroes.
In a recent interview screenwriter
and producer Simon Kinberg revealed why the studio (Fox) has been putting off
the released of anything official.
“We’re putting it together
now, and one of the important things, because this Fantastic Four is a reboot, and is such a different
tonality and vibe from those other films, we want to make sure that the first
thing we put out really expresses the voice of the movie, and isn’t compromised
by not having visual effects ready, or anything like that.
I don’t actually know when
it’s coming out, but I’ve seen all the footage from the movie. I was there for
pretty much the whole shoot. It is a very different film from the others, and
one that I think is very different from other superhero movies. It’s a very
emotional, character-driven, more grounded film than I think people are
anticipating.”
I understand that they are
treading lightly with this reboot, and want to present things the best way
possible, but maybe that is precisely why they should have already released something,
I mean, just a regular teaser poster wouldn't need visual effects, neither
would some set photos of our heroes before they change into The Fantastic Four.
What do you think? Is it really
the CGI?
Fantastic Four stars Michael B. Jordan as Johnny
Storm/Human Torch, Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Jamie Bell as
Ben Grimm/Thing, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Toby Kebbel as Dr.
Doom, Tim Blake Nelson as Harvey Elder/Mole Man and Reg E. Cathey as Dr. Storm.
