Earlier
this year Full Metal Jacket and The Dark Knight actor, Matthew Modine
expressed via Twitter his interest in playing the role of Sorcerer
Supreme in Marvel's Doctor Strange. At the time it was thought that
the actor was just testing the ground, but had no interest in playing
the part, but no, as he continued to “talk” with Marvel, and
already gathered quite a following of fans that would like him to
play the part.
Now
speaking to Empire Magazine, the actor revealed that his interest in
playing the part is real.
"Whenever
there's an opportunity to work in a high-profile film, and in this
case such a delicious role, you want the appropriate people to be
aware of your interest",
he says. "It
would be interesting to see if Marvel might take notice of voices on
Twitter. We live in a brave new world of instant shout-outs".
There
have been some rumors of possible actors being eyed for the role,
like Benedict Cumberbatch, who already dismissed it, Jared Leto, who
said nothing, and perhaps the strongest of them all, Joaquim Phoenix,
who according to some sources was offered the role, but no Modine,
however has the actor points out, Marvel already made a
out-of-the-box choice, when they cast Robert Downey Jr. to play Iron
Man.
"I
believe Robert Downey Jr. was not the first choice for Iron Man, now
it's difficult to imagine another actor better in the role."
What
do you think of Modine as Doctor Strange?
