If like me you thought that Roland Emmerich's next project was going to be Independence Day 2, then you are in for a shock, and what a shock. According to Deadline, the director will next helm the gay rights drama Stonewall, which revolves around the 1969 police raid at the Stonewall Hotel in Greenwich Village, a famous gathering place for gays and transgenders. The event triggered the fight for social rights during a complicated time in U.S. history.
Well...i don't know where to go from here. Are there
going to be explosions? Car chases? Terrorists? A lonely cop/soldier fighting
for his survival?
Deadline also reports that War Horse star Jeremy
Irvine will lead the project as a young man, who experiences a political awakening.
Brothers & Sisters creator Jon Robin Baitz penned
the screenplay, which Emmerich plans to shoot soon.
I'm not doubting the director's abilities to do a
small (we think) social/political drama, but Godzilla, Independence Day, 2012, The Day After
Tomorrow, Stargate, etc...It's a big turning point.
What do you think?
