Out of all the characters in the
X-Men movie franchise Wolverine is the one that keeps raking all the standalone
movies. After the craptastic fest off terrible visual effects, awful
storytelling and OMG what happened to Deadpool? that was X-Men Origins:
Wolverine, director James Mangold managed to revitalize the character in last
year’s The Wolverine, thus opening the doors for another solo movie, which has
already been confirmed by both Mangold and Hugh Jackman, who despite confirming
that a third standalone movie is in the works also said that recasting the
Wolverine part will be “inevitable”.
Although not an official
statement, when asked via Twitter if Wolverine 3 would come out after
Apocalypse the director replied yes.
@R__E__D_R__U__M @20centuryfox @ShuDonner We are figuring it all out. At the moment, I'm shooting The next #Wolverine after #XmenApocalypse.

Now I say it again, this is by no
means an official statement (so far), but given that Jackman will be 48 years
old when Apocalypse comes out, it makes sense that the studio would fast track production
on a third entry in the Wolverine standalone universe, unless the “inevitable” occurs.
