For the last four years
DreamWorks has been developing feature film adaptation of one of the most
iconic mangas and animes of all time, Ghost in the Shell. The project has been
in various stages of development at the studio but now things seem to have
taken on more and important step, a director. It seems that director Rupert
Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) has been tapped to helm the project.
The film will be based on
Masamune Shirow’s 1989 futuristic thriller manga that follows “the exploits of
a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission
that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.”
At the moment Sanders’ has five
more movies (90 Church, Napoleon, The Kill List, The Juliet and a “Bonnie and
Clyde in space” type of project being developed) on his plate, six with Ghost
in the Shell, so it’s not clear what we will do next.
The Ghost in the
Shell manga and anime are both great, and i would recommend them both.
