The last we heard from Ron Howards feature film adaptation
of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower was back in September of last year, when
Howard said that they were “still working on it”. The adaptation has been stuck
in development hell for a long time, first at Universal, which passed it along
because of budget issues, then at Warner Bros. who also passed it along, which
made both the director and the producer, Brian Grazer have agreed to no longer
comment on the film status. The Dark Tower adaptation is a very ambitious
project, as it consists of three motion pictures and a tv element, maybe that’s
one of the reasons why it is still on the page and not on screen.
In an interview to AICN, actor Aaron Paul revealed
that he met with Ron Howard about potentially playing Eddie Dean in the film:
“I’ve had a ton of meetings on that. I just had a
general sit down with Ron Howard, who is a huge fan of the show (Breaking Bad,
naturally), which is such a crazy thing to even think that Ron Howard even
knows who I am. They’re definitely planning on making it.”
The actor admitted to not yet reading all of The Dark
Tower books, but seemed genuinely enthusiastic about the possibility of joining
Ron Howard’s adaptation.
“I’m excited. Their goal is to do three films, but
also have a television element to it, which will be very interesting. From what
I hear, Eddie Dean is a pretty epic, iconic character.”
