Although production is set to begin early next year, it seems that a script for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII is yet to be finalized. It’s a known fact that Academy Award winner screenwriter Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) had previously worked with director J.J. Abrams on a script for the film, but after some reason Arndt left and feeling that the script was in need of something more or else Disney brought in Lawrence Kasdan to help, and now Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn has revealed that he hasn’t received a script.
While speaking at a Variety breakfast, Horn announced
that he expects to see the script in January and until then there isn’t an
official budget, but he points out that they expect it to be at least $200
million.
It seems that Kasdan and Abrams aren’t giving the
script some touches, it seems more like they are pretty much re-writing the whole
script. Let’s hope that the December of 2015 release date remains unscathed.
Still at the Variety breakfast, Horn spoke about the
future of the Indiana Jones franchise. Last week it was announced that Disney
who bought Lucasfilm and Paramount came to a financial understanding regarding
the Indiana Jones franchise. Paramount keeps the distributions rights for the
previous four Indy films and also a cut from future ones, while Disney who now
ones the rights of the property will be in charge of developing and
distributing the future adventures of Indy.
At the breakfast, Horn said that people shouldn’t
expect a new Indiana Jones movie for about two or three years, adding, “We
don’t have a story. We need a story.”
