Arrow’s spin-off series The Flash is coming, but
besides Grant Gustin who is playing the iconic speedster no other actor/actress
is attached to star. The original plan for the series was for The Flash to make
a backdoor pilot, i.e. appear in a number episodes, see if everything goes
well, see if the numbers are good and then go full steam ahead to a series, but
plans failed and The Flash’s stay at the Arrow series was cut short, forcing
the series creators to move on with a standard pilot, which may or may not be
picked up, but let’s hope.
In an recent Ghostbusters related podcast titled Crossthe Streams, actor Ernie Hudson, more famous for playing Winston Zeddemore in
Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, talked a little bit about his upcoming
projects, including The Flash series pilot.
“In the meantime, there’s a spin-off of ‘Arrow’ called
‘Flash.’ I’m meeting the creators next week. So, I have to prepare for that.
[I'm up for the role of] his adoptive dad – or the dad of – “
Hudson cut himself off, maybe in fear of giving too much
away, but he finally continued by saying:
“(Barry Allen's) dad has a
problem.”
Now Hudson can’t play Flash’s
biological father for obvious reasons, but we can play Detective West, Barry
Allen’s surrogate father, who toke him in after the death of his mother and imprisonment
of his father. Detective West is also the father of Iris West, the love of
Barry’s life, and aunt of Wally West, aka Flash III and grandmother of Bart
Allen, aka Flash IV.
So in the pilot we will see Grant Gustin as The Flash,
Ernie Hudson as Detective West (possibly) and maybe Iris West.
