It’s no surprise that AMC has renewed the instant classic and ratings monster The Walking Dead for a fifth season. Since its debut in 2010 the show has been moving up the ranks to this year’s 16.1 million viewers opening of season four, which makes the show not only extremely popular but also a direct rival to network tv.
In addition
to a new season, showrunner Scott Gimple will stay put, making him the first
one, since the Frank Darabont, to stay for more than one season. Robert Kirkman and Gale Ann Hurd will also be
staying as executive producers.
Season
five will premiere on October of 2014, but AMC is also developing a companion
series with the comic creator and TWD executive producer Robert Kirkman to be
aired in 2015.. The new series will be set in the same zombie apocalypse universe
as The Walking Dead, but will have a new story and new characters.
