It seems that director John M. Chu has stepped out of the Masters of the Universe live action feature film and Columbia Pictures seems to go in a different direction with the project.
Chu’s
departure from the project isn’t entirely unexpected, since he is poised to
start shooting another toy line turned movie franchise, G.I. Joe 3 in 2014 and
should be finished with it around 2015, which doesn’t give him too much time to
be worrying with Master’s and if Columbia is trying to get the project up and
running has faster as they can, then getting another director that is ready to
start working in the near future is the way to go.
According
to HV, Chu’s departure from the project isn’t the only thing that has changed
with the project; apparently it seems that Alex Litvak and Mike Finch’s
previous draft of the movie is going to get changed quite a bit, which explains
why writer Terry Rossio has come onboard the project. Rossio co-wrote the
Pirates of the Caribbean films and this year’s box-office flop The Lone Ranger.
Has I
previously stated, Masters of the Universe is a toy line, that got turned into
a cartoon series and that is now being adapted into a live action feature film.
The story follows the character Adam, aka He Man as he fights the evil Skeletor
and his minions on Eternia. In 1987 there was a live action feature film of
Masters’, which feature Dolph Lundgren as He-Man.
Now that
the studio has brought in a new writer to work on the script a new director is
set to follow.
