The adaptation of popular children’s book series Paddington Bear is set to start shooting later this month, under the watchful eye of director Paul King (Bunny and the Bull) and is a Studiocanal production and will be the first feature distributed by Harvey and Bob Weinstein’s new company TWC-Dimension, aka The Weinstein Company-Dimension. According to the Weinstein’s they will “team on films for which they share a common passion.”
As I
said, Paddington is an adaptation of Michael Bond’s children books series
Paddington Bear and centers on a young, polite immigrant bear from Peru where
he lived his is Aunt Lucy, who is left lone and lost at London’s Paddington
Station. After being “rescued” by a kind family, Paddington takes off in search
of an explorer who inspired his Aunt Lucy years before, while avoiding a creepy
and sinister taxidermist.
Paddington
will be a CGI/Live Action film, meaning that actor Colin Firth will be lending
his voice to the CGI Paddington and Nicole Kidman will play the very much Live
Taxidermist. Regarding Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters and Jim Broadbent it’s
still unknown what their respective roles will be.
