If you
live in North America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand or in the UK, the highly
anticipated Bong Joon-Ho’s sci-fi epic Snowpiercer, starring Chris Evans, Tilda
Swinton and John Hurt will have less 20 minutes of film than let’s say France
for instance.
The
order to cut down 20 minutes of film came from The Weinstein Company, who are
concerned that the film is too slow and complicated, and that “their aim is to
make sure the film ‘will be understood by audiences in Iowa … and Oklahoma.” So
what the Weinstein’s are really saying is that people from the mid-west of the US,
are incapable of watching, enjoying and understand a more or less complicated
film? Don’t they realize that they are just perpetuating a stereotype that most
likely doesn’t apply to all? Besides, if they think that they need to change
the film so audiences from “Iowa … and Oklahoma” can understand and enjoy it,
then they are in for a surprise at the box-office. And just to finish, one more
thing why the hell does it need to be pretty much all of the English speaking
Countries in the World?
