Chu Out Wyatt In For Star Trek 3?

Earlier today news that G.I: Joe Retaliation director Jon M. Chu was at the top of Paramount’s list of possible candidates to replace J.J. Abrams in helming the upcoming Star Trek 3, have been dismissed by the director’s representatives, who said that their client was not up for the project since he has G.I: Joe 3 to work on, in fact what the Chu’s representatives said was; “Chu has not been contacted about the project.”

In our earlier report we highlighted Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) as a possible contender for the spot, but we were wrong, the name that have surfaced is not Goddard, but Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). According to some reports Wyatt is “virtually a lock at this stage in the game”.

In Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Wyatt managed to successfully bring back to life a cult sci-fi franchise but since then, almost nothing panned out. He was attached to The Equalizer, featuring Denzel Washington but negotiation broke down and Birdsong featuring Eddie Redmayne which was also a dud. So although is “virtually a lock at this stage in the game”, let’s wait for an official announcement from either the studio or the director.
