American
actor Powers Boothe passed away Sunday morning in his sleep of natural causes
at his home in Los Angeles. The Emmy-winning actor was 68.
Boothe,
who began his career in theater, made his Broadway debut in the late 1970s in a
production of Lone Star & Pvt. Wars.
In
1980 the actor won an Emmy for lead actor in a limited series for playing cult
leader Jim Jones in CBS' Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones. Boothe won the
award during an actors strike and opted to cross the picket line to pick up the
award, saying, "This may be either the bravest moment of my career or the
dumbest."
The
actor was also nominated for two ensemble SAG Awards, first in 1996 for Nixon,
and then again in 2007 for Deadwood.
Boothe's
credits also include Southern State, Red Dawn, Tombstone, Blue Sky, U Turn, Frailty, Sin
City, Men of Honor, and MacGruber.
On television
Boothe played the lead character in Philip Marlowe, Private Eye, voiced a
couple of characters in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited
cartoons, played Vice President Noah Daniels in 24, was the villain in Marvel's
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Connie Britton's father in Nashville.
