Dolph Lundgren is
making a big return to comic book-based movies with Aquaman.
The veteran actor,
whose credits include A View to a Kill, Rocky IV, Masters of the Universe, and
more recently The Expendables action franchise, will play King Nereus of the
underwater kingdom of Xebel, "who claims Mera (Amber Heard) as his own and
wants to kill Aquaman (Jason Momoa)."
Lundgren's comic book
career includes playing Frank Castle in the 1989 adaptation of The Punisher,
and Konstantin Kovar in Arrow.
Also starring in
Aquaman is Nicole Kidman as Aquaman's mother Queen Atlanna, Patrick Wilson as
Aquaman's evil half-brother Orm/Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Aquaman's adviser
Dr. Vulko, Temuera Morrison as Aquaman's father Thomas Curry, and Yahya
Abdul-Mateen II as the classic DC villain Black Manta.
Directed by James Wan
from a script by Will Beall, the project is eyeing a May start of production in
Australia for a December 21, 2018 release.
