Game of Thrones alum
Iwan Rheon, who played Ramsay Bolton on the HBO series, is set to play Maximus
in ABC's Marvel's Inhumans live-action series.
The
Inhumans, a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were
first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965.
The series will
explore the never-before-told epic adventure of King Black
Bolt and the Royal Family, which includes Rheon's Maximus, the manipulative,
clever (as in genius), charming, and insane brother of Black Bolt, who often
plots against the Royal Family including his brother.
"Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish, and
still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed
to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board," said
Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and executive producer on the Inhumans.
"Maximus is a
complex character," showrunner Scott Buck said. "Likable, charming,
tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have
someone of Iwan’s considerable talent."
A
version of the first two episodes of Marvel Television’s new series Marvel’s
The Inhumans, produced in conjunction with ABC Studios and filmed entirely with
IMAX digital cameras, will run worldwide exclusively in IMAX for two weeks at
the beginning of September 2017. ABC plans to then premiere the weekly series
in fall, with additional exclusive content that can only be seen on the network.
Dutch director Roel Reiné is set to helm the first two episodes of the new
series.
