Good news fellow Naruto fans!
This past weekend at Jump
Festa, the Naruto and Boruto stage event revealed that Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto
is officially involved in Lionsgate's upcoming live-action adaptation of the story.
Kishimoto's Naruto debut was
in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1999, and ended its run on
November 2014. The ninja manga spawned two anime series (Naruto and Naruto Shippūden), several
anime movies, various OVAs (Original Video Animation), a bounty of video games,
Boruto (a spinoff manga and anime series), stage plays, and novels.
In the fourteen
something years of Naruto, Kishimoto built a vast, rich, deeply emotional, and evolving (yes young characters do grow old to have families) story and world so it is impossible to
describe it all in just a few words, but…
"Twelve
years ago the Village Hidden in the Leaves was attacked by a fearsome threat. A
nine-tailed fox spirit claimed the life of the village leader, the Hokage, and
many others. Today, the village is at peace and a troublemaking kid named
Naruto is struggling to graduate from Ninja Academy. His goal may be to become
the next Hokage, but his true destiny will be much more complicated. The
adventure begins now!" - Viz
In addition to news that Kishimoto will be involved in
the live-action movie, the panel also featured some pieces of pre-production
art, which unfortunately have not been made available, and confirmation that a
Boruto anime series will premiere in April of 2017.
To be directed by Michael
Gracey, who is currently directing The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman,
Rebecca Ferguson, and Michelle Williams, the Naruto live-action movie doesn't
yet have a release date.
