Up-and-coming
scribe Christina Hodson is set to write the script for Warner
Bros. upcoming Suicide Squad spinoff centered on Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey.
Margot Robbie, who made her DC Extended Universe debut as Harley Quinn in
David Ayer's Suicide Squad is set to both produce the film under her LuckyChap
banner, as well as reprise her role.
The project was first announced back in May, well before Suicide Squad even
hit theaters, and since then Robbie has deepened her ties with the studio thanks
to a first look deal to both produce and develop films.
Hodson is a hot commodity right now, having written three Black List scripts
in the last few years, one of which, The Eden Project, was picked up by Sony
Pictures. The writer has also penned a reboot of The Fugitive for Warner Bros.,
a Transformers spinoff centered on Bumblebee for Paramount, an adaptation of Out,
a Japanese crime novel, that may or may not land on AMC, and a "female-centric
action epic" for Nina Jacobson at Fox.
As for the immediate future, Hodson has penned scripts for Shut In, a
thriller starring Naomi Watts and Jacob Tremblay ("Room"), which
premieres this week, and Unforgettable, and erotic thriller starring Rosario
Dawson and Katherine Heigle.
