Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves and
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story screenwriter Gary Whitta are teaming up to adapt
David Petersen's Eisner-winning graphic novel series Mouse Guard for 20th
Century Fox.
Reeves will produce the project alongside Mouse Guard's
publishing company Boom! Studios, but will not direct the adaptation.
To bring Petersen's decade old graphic novel to live,
Fox and Boom! will the same kind of performance-capture technology used in the
acclaimed Apes franchise as well as Disney's The Jungle Book.
The Mouse
Guard series,
which tells the epic story of an elite order of mice sworn to protect common
mousefolk against predators and other enemies, has sold almost a million
copies, and has been translated into ten languages, as well as a role playing game.
For
Boom! the Mouse Guard series is yet another title they are developing for the
big screen. The studio is set to start shooting The Empty Man in August with
James Badge Dale ("Iron Man 3"), and has Lumberjanes and James Wan's Malignant
Man in the pipeline.
