Amazon has staked out August 19 for the premiere of their
satirical superhero series The Tick, starring Guardians of the
Galaxy's Peter Serafinowicz in the titular role.
Set in a world where superheroes have been real for
decades, an underdog accountant with zero powers comes to realize his city is
owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover
this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.
Also starring Griffin Newman, Jackie Earle Haley,
Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez and Brendan Hines, The Tick is executive produced
by Ben Edlund, Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld, with Wally Pfister and Edlund
in charge of directing and writing, respectfully.
Created by Endlund in 1986 as a mascot for the New
England Comics comic book store chain, The Tick was given its own comic series
in 1988, an animated television series in the mid-90s, and a short-lived
live-action show in the early 2000s starring Patrick Warburton.
