From box-office and critical dud to cult film, Kevin
Smith's Mallrats has acquired over the twenty plus years since its release a
big following of fans eager to see what the director, who is currently busy with
his True North trilogy (Tusk, Yoga Hosers, and upcoming Moose Jaws) has envisioned
for the sequel, which he announced last year would be coming shortly with the
original cast reprising their roles.
Well, the movie will no longer be a movie, it will
instead be a 10-episode series, announced Smith in a recent radio interview to
Philadelphia's Preston and Steve Morning Show on WMMR 93.3.
According to the director, he and Universal are
closing in on a deal to turn the Mallrats sequel Mallbrats into a TV series. Smith didn't
went into details about what network will host the show, but he did say that
despite the long delay, they are proceeding with the show, which he plans to
film at Exton Square Mall as previously announced.
