ABC is cleaning
house. The network has decided not to renew a handful of shows including Marvel's
Agent Carter and Castle, as well as not to pursue the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
spinoff series Marvel's Most Wanted.
After not renewing
the contracts of Castle co-lead Stana Katic and fellow cast member Tamala
Jones, ABC has decided to just not renew the entire series for a ninth season
despite the deals already made with Nathan Fillion, Seamus Dever, and Jon
Huertas. Castle ends its eight-season long run on May 16.
As for their Marvel
universe, ABC has concluded that picking up Agent Carter just wasn't worth it.
The series starring Hayley Atwell debut to critical acclaim but struggled to
find an audience. The first season ended with just 4 million viewers tuning in,
while the second season finale dipped considerably with less than 2.5 million
watching. Fans of the show knew that it wasn't likely that ABC would pick up
the series for a third season, and now it has been made official.
Regarding the Agents
of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff centered on Mockingbird (Adrianne Palecki) and Lance
Hunter (Nick Blood) titled Marvel's Most Wanted that was in development, ABC
has decided not to move forward with it. The show had already cast Delroy
Lindo, Oded Fehr, and Fernanda Andrade in regular roles.
This leaves ABC with
just one Marvel drama on their present lineup. The last we heard the network
was working on Marvel's Damage Control, which is still in development, and
Cloak and Dagger, which will air on Freeform (former ABC Family).
