On a storytelling perspective,
Pixar has been hit-and-miss with sequels. Toy Story 2 and 3 were outstanding
movies with a deep story, but Cars 2 and Monsters University were shallow, uninspiring, and maddening (who thought we needed more Mater?).
Opinions aside, Pixar is
heavily betting on more sequels. The studio has already started development on
a handful of follow-ups that include Toy Story 4, Cars 3, The Incredibles 2,
and Finding Dory.
Of the sequels coming out,
Finding Dory is the first out of the gate, and it will follow Ellen Degeneres's
Dory as she searches for answers about her past, family, and her ability to
speak Whale.
Andrew Stanton returns to
direct the sequel, which also includes the voice talent of Albert Brooks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Ed O’Neill, Idris Elba, Dominic West, Ty Burrell, Willem Dafoe, and Kaitlin Olsen.
Finding Dory opens in theaters on June 17, 2016.
Disney and Pixar's “Finding Dory” reunites
everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin
on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her
parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale?
Joining DeGeneres are Ed O’Neill (“Modern Family”), who lends his voice to Hank, a
cantankerous octopus; Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”), the voice of Bailey, a
misguided beluga whale; and Kaitlin Olson (“Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), who
voices Destiny, a kind-hearted whale shark, and Albert Brooks, Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy. Disney·Pixar’s “Finding
Dory” swims into theaters June 17, 2016.
