In a super distasteful move, TriStar Pictures (a subsidiary
of Sony Pictures Entertainment) has closed a deal with the Jim Henson Co. to
produce a new Labyrinth movie with Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole

The original movie came out in 1986 and starred a
sixteen-years-old Jennifer Connelly as Sarah, a teenager who after selfishly
wishing her baby brother to go way, has to navigate a fantastical maze in order
to save him from the Jareth the Goblin King, played by David Bowie.
Executive produced by George Lucas, and with a script
by Monty Python's Terry Jones, Labyrinth was Jim Henson's last feature film.

updated version of the story, a sequel, or if it's just borrowing elements from
the original version, but whatever the plan may end up being, Perlman has
spoken and she confirms that it won't be a reboot.

While I'm not against reboots, long lost sequels, updated
versions, or whatever, the timing for a new Labyrinth couldn't be worse. Bowie
passed away not too long ago, and the announcement just makes TriStar and the
Jim Henson Co. look like greedy and heartless studios that will stop at nothing
to make a quick buck. On the other hand, it is entirely possible that both parties
were already discussing the project long before Bowie's death, but still...
