Director Joseph McGinty, also known as McG is in talks
with Sony Pictures to direct a new live-action movie based on Mattel's popular
toy line and cartoon, Masters of the Universe.
The sci-fi/fantasy story centers on Adam a prince in the
fictional planet of Eternia, who transforms into a warrior of great strength
and power known as He-Man when he wields the Sword of Power and proclaims
"By the Power of Grayskull!". Together with his allies like,
Man-At-Arms, Orko, Teela, The Sorceress, and Battle Cat, who undergoes the same
transformation as Prince Adam, he fights Skeletor and his forces of evil, which
include Beast Man, Mer-Man, Evil-Lyn, and Tri-Klops to name a few.
Besides the toys, cartoons, and comic books, Masters
of the Universe was also adapted into a live-action movie in the late 1980s
starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man, Frank Langella as Skeletor, Meg Foster as
Evil-Lyn, Courtney Cox as an Earthling called Julie Winston.
McG is expected to oversee the rewrite of the script initially
penned by Alex Litvak (Predators) and Mike Finch (Leaving Las Vegas).
