French filmmaker Luc Besson
has announced that Ethan Hawke has come on board his upcoming adaptation of Pierre
Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières' 1967 graphic novel, Valerian.
Hawke joins fellow actors Dane
DeHaan as Valérian and Cara Delavingne as Laureline, two time travelling agents
who maintain order in the 28th century, Clive Owen as Commander Arün Filitt, Rihanna in a
yet unknown but large role, and supermodel Pauline Hoarau in mo-cap.
Valerian is scheduled to
premiere on July 2017.
VALERIAN is a saga that every fan of Star Wars and Star Trek will identify
with and love. Valerian and his beautiful, sharp-witted and sharp-tongued
partner, Laureline, live adventures set against visually stunning backgrounds:
complex architectural inventions, futuristic machines, otherworldly landscapes,
and odd-looking aliens that are staples of artist Mezieres’s seemingly
boundless visual inventiveness. The stories are gripping and of epic
proportion, sweeping along in trilling, hyper-space speed.
