Disney and Lucasfilm
have cast a wide net in their search for someone to play a younger Scruffy-Looking
Nerfherder in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff.
Apparently, more than
2,500 actors have either auditioned or sent in tapes to casting director Jeanne
McCarthy so she can decide who is best suited to play the young Han Solo in Chris
Miller and Phil Lord's planned Star Wars film.
"This has been
the easiest movie to audition for," says an agent with a client who has already
auditioned. "They are seeing everyone."
Among the extensive
list of actors that have auditioned or sent in tapes there is Dave Franco (30),
Miles Teller (28), Nick Robinson (20), Leo Howard (18), Tony Oller (24),
Chandler Riggs (16), Hunter Parrish (28), Rami Malek (34), Logan Lerman (23), Ansel
Elgort (21), Jack Reynor (23), Colton Haynes (27), and Max Thieriot (27).
But don't think the
casting stops at the U.S. borders. It seems that the studio is also taking in
names from outside the country. Canadian actor Landon Liboiron (23), and British
actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson (25), Ed Westwick (28), Tom Felton (28), and Joshua
Sasse (27), have also thrown their hats into the ring.
According to The
Hollywood Reporter sources, the sweet spot in age seems to be in the mid-20s,
for franchise purposes I'm assuming.
Despite the
staggering numbers, time is something McCarthy has on her side. The yet untitled spinoff will
begin shooting in January of 2017 for a May 25, 2018 release.
